After getting letter requests for donations for GOD, I too fell for this slick approach from the St. Matthew's Churches. And by reading the letters from other people that were taken in by this scam I decided to write in with another way to try to get these people to quit sending me these requests for money.
If you are really intent on trying to get them to stop sending letter requests for money to you try this: in the return envelope that they provide send them anything that weighs up to 13 ounces. You can legally mail anything that weighs up to 13 ounces before having to send it priority mail.
The rate that the post office charges to mail a letter that weighs up to 13 ounces is over $3.50. If we all do this it will soon become too costly to them to maintain this mailing stragegy.
Write back and tell them GOD told you to do it.
