I recently along with 4 other tenants who lived at 301 A Madison Street, Radford, VA 24141 during the 1999 school year received a bill for damages from BCR aka Big Cash Ripoff. This bill was issued for the first time on 6/9 for damages totaling $556.00.
I have disputed so far $110.00 worth of damages and have had them removed. BCR is still attempting to charge us for supposedly painting this apartment during the time we lived there as well as the year before. That apartment was completely trashed and nothing was painted and it was a rundown property just like BCR enjoys to run. The problem I have most is that BCR waited 5 years to issue this bill as they thought someone would just pay it, do to the costs of hiring and attorney and for one of the tenants who lived there to fly out from CA it would be cheaper to pay and not show up for court.
I am representing us in the court case. Also, I have a bigger problem as they have already made one lie in court stating all tenants who lived at the house received this bill and it should be paid. That of course would be hard since one tenant has been in Iraq defending our country and that really pissed me off. I would really like your help and please forward this on to any other possible tenants that may rent from BCR. That were at Radford during the 1998 period.
The statute of limitations gives BCR 5 years to bill and take to court if unpaid which they are now in the process of doing. My court case which one tenant will be back from Iraq in August and is attending will be on 9/16 at 2pm in Radford, VA.
This just sickens me how a corrupt company continues to take advantage of all of its tenants when it is really one giant slum lord. BCR stated they painted the whole apartment in full on 8/3/1998 which would be hard to do since I lived there that previous year with 4 other tenants and moved in on 8/1/1998.
This has been a usual situation for BCR to do as I have talked with many people who have received bills almost 5 years later from BCR in an attempt to steal money. I think they figure like I said before that it would be cheaper for someone to just pay this money as the costs to defend yourself would be higher than the bill.
I of course could pay the money, but this is the principle of things as well as I have a 1 year old son and another son on the way in Novemeber and BCR is basically stealing food from my families mouth. Also, another tenant has a little one on the way in September. My biggest problem is that I feel like they are taking advantage of us as well as another tenant who was fighting for our country for the last 2 1/2 years. When I showed up in court in July BCR inquired about why the other persons were not there. Luckily I had e-mails from the tenant in Iraq and another tenant whose father had passed which proved BCR was not telling the truth when they stated we all received their invoice billing us for damages, unless the mailed it to Iraq.
Of course I cannot get a hold of each tenant. Another tenant was let off as they rented to him the following year which in their letter of debt they stated they would not rent to anyone with an outstanding debt to BCR.
I just truly feel an injustice is being done and I need all of your help. I hope to hear from anyone soon and please forward this on to all possible tenants of BCR in order to prevent getting ripped off in the future. Please let me know if anyone can help our situation
