(I have 2 different stories here!)
First: NEVER rent from an individual by the name of Margaret Childs. She is about 80 years old, and hands down the WORST landlord ever. Lets just say that we lived in an apartment for 2 months without a working oven and broken windows and a circut breaker that kept blowing when you turned on the lights (the property was at 3448 J Street). Nice location, horrible landlord. Oh yeah - our rent was 950 per month. HI-we had NO stove.
So I took her to small claims after she witheld our deposit because we moved out because we didnt have a stove/oven. Well, the judge laughed at her and demanded she pay me the money within one week. Victory. Don't rent from her - you'll be sorry.
Years before that I lived in Park Terrace Apartments on Cottage. Nice place, until the evil managment took over. Lets just say it took 6 months to get our 300 security deposit back. Again I had to go to small claims, the manager brought her sister who was in law school.
The sister tried to use all this legal jargon and say we were breaking all these laws. Well, the judge told her she couldn't talk because she wasnt a party to the action and that regardless, they broke the law by not giving my deposit back to me within 21 days. Victory again. Dont rent there. They are mean and all the manager does is lay by the pool all day.
