My original complaint was with Manhattan Loft Furniture. I did not want bedroom furniture constructed of MDF or particleboard. Their furniture group was almost $2,000 more than my favorite group which I rejected (via an email) based on the material. The rep at Manhattan Loft could only tell me veneers were used but said she would contact the manufacturer for specifics. I told her veneer over plywood would be acceptable. I placed my order figuring I could cancel if I found my needs as to the construction were not met. When I never heard back from ML I assumed (my mistake) my needs were met especially considering the additional expense.
Not only did I receive furniture that is mainly particleboard several pieces had defects. ML has denied my conversation with their rep ever took place. I sent them emails communications I had with 2 other companies which were dated prior to my order date with ML.in both cases I am rejecting my favorite group based on the use of MDF. They still denied my conversation.
I fought with this company from October until December. To make a long story short; they wanted to send a replacement top for a dented nightstand. A $419 nightstand and the top just screws off. They want me to accept a repaired bottom of an armoire because after 3 attempts they cannot get me one that is not damaged. They have totally ignored all of the defects with the bed.
During the Oct. To Dec. Time period I have been repeatedly deceived or flat out lied to. One example is that ML stated that some of the clean lines of contemporary furniture require the use of MDF. When I directed them to a website that had my exact bed but was constructed of solid hard rock maple they ignored me. And after receiving the second damaged armoire bottom I called ML asking to speak to the manager and was told I could not. Does this sound like a company you would like to do business with?
After receiving the 3rd damaged armoire I decided to contact the Better Business Bureau. Essentially from December until now it has just been a continuation of the emails between ML and myself with the BBB acting as a middleman forwarding our responses on my complait website.
After the last rebuttal by ML I received an email from the BBB offering arbitration. I like the majority of people had great respect for the BBB. I sent them an email asking if they could provide any assistance as to whether my expectations of this company were too high. (I have never received furniture I was not completely satisfied with.) I started the email by saying it was NOT my official response. Several weeks later (everything takes time with the BBB) I noticed my complaint website said the case was closed. When I looked up ML on the general BBB website it said, "the customer verifed that the complaint has been resolved." I was dumbfounded!
The next time I went back to my complaint site there was a link to respond and it stated it would not be considered my official response. I made them aware that I never closed the case nor verified that I was satisfied and attached the email I had originally sent.
Again, after several weeks of checking both my email and complaint website guess what I find? My last communication to the BBB that I stated was not my official response is now listed as my official response. What gives? I don't trust ML and now I don't trust the BBB either. Any ideas or suggestions out there?
