2 months prior to purchasing a 1988 Honda Civic from an elderly client of mine (who resides in an assisted living home and no longer drives), I called Lynnwood Honda to inquire whether a 1988 Gold Honda Civic LX 4 door sedan with only 40,000 original miles was a good buy and worth the $3200.00 (top blue book price) that she was asking for. I spoke to one of their specialists (who will remain unnamed at this time) and told him the car was in excellent condition except for a crack in the back tail light and the broken glass in the passenger side mirror.
I described the type of mirrors on the car which he in turn told me were very rare and that he was restoring his father-in-laws 1988 Honda and had been looking for that type of mirror for 6 years.
He said if they were the same mirrors I was describing to him he would be unable to replace it but I asked if we could just replace the glass piece itself. If not I would take it somewhere else to have the mirror fixed.
I also asked to have my car detailed and the belts replaced including the timing belt since the car was so old even with the low mileage.
My friend followed me to Lynnwood Honda and we dropped my car off. Two days later when I went to pick up the car and when I looked the first thing I saw was that both mirrors (including the driver's side) had been replaced with 2 BLACK PLASTIC mirrors. I demanded my mirrors back and he denied replacing the driver's side at all and said that he had just replaced the passenger side only with a mirror that matched the driver's side!
He said he hadn't touched the driver's side mirror.
Since my mirrors matched the color of the car (GOLD) and were smaller rectangular and not made of plastic, he tried to make me appear like some kind of crazy person.
I have spoken to the owner and asked her to check her survelliance cameras and she would see what mirrors I drove in there with and came out with, however she says their cameras are not working due to the remodeling going on.
They are also stating these mirrors never existed and that Honda never made specialty mirrors for 1988 Honda Civic Sedans.
Most dealers have never seen a 1988 Honda with these special mirrors.
This dealer is now telling me they are not responsible for anything stolen when you drop your car off for service.
Does anyone out there have these special mirrors on their 1988 Honda Civic?
