My report is belated because I only just found this wonderful website, but I'm dismayed to see that so many continue to get ripped off by American Values/WellNet/UTalk. They took me for a ride (via an authorized debit to my checking account for nearly $400) in December. I experienced the same frustration and delay tactics that everyone else has mentioned.
However, I was finally able to get a refund with the help of the Nevada BBB, who is very familiar with this company. I also had an attorney friend of mine call them several times on my behalf. I also filed a complaint with the Nevada Attorney General who responded with a letter stating that my complaint had been forwarded to the United States Secret Service. (We can only hope they'll do something!) And I called American Values so many times, demanding to talk to a supervisor (whom of course is never available) and simply staying on the phone with them refusing to accept that I wait 14 days while they "research my request for a refund" until I think they finally issued my refund so I'd leave them alone! So don't give up; I am one person at least who did finally get a refund.
I think the letter sent to them on my behalf from the BBB was the most effective tool, since they mentioned the Nevada BBB in the letters accompanying my refund checks. I hope that some class lawsuit will finally be filed against this company, and I'd love to be a part of it! I have kept all records of phone contacts, letters, checks, bank statements, everything with that hope in mind.
