I just want to state that this took effect a number of years ago, and I thought the company was closed until I found out today it wasnt and basically just want to warn the public of how their illigal operations work.
Sterling Personnel is a temp agency. Unlike other agencys I wokred for in the past, this one is currupt beyond measure. They work above the laws, least this office does, and despite putting a lot of time in, a lot of it never got paid for. If you complained about not getting paid for your time, or getting paid at all, they flag you as (Problem worker) On their system. They can have you work 60 hours, never pay you over time, and find ways to take hours out of your paycheck they shouldnt. Story of this service follows:
Getting laid off as an assistant manager when an entire company closed called Your Office, I went to this agency for temp work. Well, heck, I didnt go for temp work, just ended up that was as they advertised jobs I wanted and when I applied discovered they were temp, but heck, Jobs a job.
One of the biggest pains about this company was, they made constant mistakes with their paychecks, and would make you wait weeks to get paid! I became friends with one of the workers there who I won't name, as he was a good person, and showed me what the company did after I threatened to report them to the labor board after making me wait 4 weeks to get paid and also shorting me over 30 hours. He removed it, but the rest of what Im about to tell you basically made me leave permantly once I collected my pay.
They sent me a few blocks away to a company called Mailmen. Basically this was one of those jobs you stuffed envelopes, or sorted huge pallets of things like publishing clearing house letters into zip codes to be sent out via mail. I was a really good worker, and made sure the manager signed my time card for exactly what I worked. Which was good beacause first day I went there was on a weekend, and after 6 hours I needed a break and went to take lunch.
Guess what? THis forman tells me "We don't give breaks on weekends, you have to work like everyone else." I worked 5 more hours, then went to have my time card signed. The same guy who said no break, starts writing in an hour lunch break so I would be docked for lunch that day despite them not giving it to me. I stopped him right there. TOld him if hes going to dock me for lunch when he refused to give it to me, he has to add an additional hour. WHen he refused, I threatened I was going to call the cops on him, which made him pannic. He then rewrote my time card and made sure to not try screwing me again.
Each week I handed in the time card, and pay was Bi-Weekly. After 2 weeks, I was told there was an error, come back lator which turned out to be 2 weeks. Again Im told theres an error, and this basically went for a month with Sterling Personnel. Finally I get my paycheck, and its short 30 hours. Not only that, not a single week of Overtime was paid for. I confronted them and was told, their mass time card didn't match up with mine, so they go by the companys.
Basically the girl who said this was by her computer looking at the screen, and I yanked it around to see myself and saw she was lying. Labor board happens to be 2 blocks from this place. I again threatened to call the cops, and press charges on the owner. I even as much as picked their own phone up and called them. Owner was called, and ordered my correct pay to be given. After I got the check, I went to the bank it was drawn on to make sure they wouldnt bounce, and never went back to them.
The company not only is deceitful itself, but works with other deceitful companys. I was told by a friend it was closed up when they went to the same building, but seems they reopened. Its been a while, but Id recommend anyone who might be looking for work, try any other angency but Sterling Personnel.
