This company called and informed me that I qualified
for a $8000.00 - $25000.00 dollar government grant. As a college student any extra money helps. After hesitating and many reassurances from the caller that they are providers of government grant processing, I gave them the information and then was told that $257.00 would be transferred from my account. I told them again I was not sure I wanted to do this. They told me I could call back. So I hung up the phone and decided I didn't want to do it. A few days later $257.00 was taken out of my account.
I called them to find out why they took the money and to ask for them to reverse the transaction. They then told me I was tape recorded saying yes and verified to the tape recorded narrative that $257.00 would be withdrawn from the account. If I didn't get the grant, a refund minus processing cost (no dollar amount given) could be refunded after 8 months, only if I followed their instructions.
I told the representative they only tape recorded part of the conversation. What about when I told them I wasn't sure, and I didn't even have enough in my account because of bills coming due and I'd have to call back? I told the representative I felt this was a scam and to refund my money. The representative then said the conversation was over and hung up.
I went to the bank and explained what had taken place. The bank had me fill out a form for dispute/reversal. The bank told me it would take approximately 1 week to process. So now I have to wait.in the meantime, my bills cannot be paid.
This company is a scam and should be stopped immediately.
