I have been paying interest only payments ever since I graduated. A few months ago Sallie Mae made me start paying on the principle. My brother who is also my co-signer was diagnosed with crohn's disease. We tried to get him on disability but he was rejected and he has no one else but me, so I have been taking care of him. I tried to work with Sallie Mae explaining my situation going over my entire financial situation to them then they told me "there is nothing we can do for you" so I fell behind on payments. I recently found work for my brother so he has been helping out but it's not much. I hope to get caught up on payments soon but Sallie Mae herasses me and my brother seven days a week with at least nine phone calls from four different numbers asking for money. There is no working with the they are no different than any other debt collector. The phone calls need to stop... For starters.
