Consumer Report

On Sep 10th I tried to access my microsoft email and could not remember my password. After several failed attempts i looked online on Google.com to search for a Microsoft customer support number and the first number that came up on the search results was ITechLine.com 18886344288. When i called the number they introduced themselves as Microsoft support line and immediately asked my name, email address and problem. I told them i cannot login because i have forgotten my password. At that point, the support technician guy declared that i actually cannot login because someone is trying to access my computer from a different state than i reside in. Then he mentioned that i live in california, along with my city name. I said yes. He then said he needs to access my account immediately, and told me the steps to grant him remote access. Without my full knowledge, he just kept telling me to press 'i accept', and 'ok' on every thing and then he was in control of my computer. At that time, i trusted him completely as i thought he is a microsoft employee. I was wrong! This company is a total scam. After getting access to my files, he quickly browsed through everything. I didn't even get time to log out from many personal accounts, including my online banking account, facebook etc. He kept talking in the mean while, asked if i am from india etc. Then he said, well your computer is 40% infected and hacked. If you want it removed, i can do it for you. At that point i told him i do not wish to do anything without talking to my husband first who is an IT professional himself and i asked him to disconnect from my computer and disconnect the remote access at once. He kept saying i should just get it fixed right now as a moment's delay can damage all my files. I felt so violated, like someone has entered my house and has access to so much personal stuff without my full knowledge and permission. He kept trying to scare me into getting him to fix my computer. Then he disconnected and without even listening to me any further, he said bye and hung up. 10 minutes later i suddenly got another remote access request from the same person. At that time i was calling this scam company again to confirm they are legitimate. I was talking to another guy, and that guy was just as big a con artist. He listened to my issue then said he can fix it in $149.99... I told him no and that i just want them to stop the remote access and whatever they made me install on my computer. He said that remote access has been disconnected. But i should talk to my husband then call them back. He asked for my number and i told him i'll call back if i need their help. He said ok. An hour later, i got a call back on my cell phone from this guy and he said, 'have you talked to your husband yet'? I was shocked, and infuriated because i had specifically told him not to call back and that i'd call myself if i need help. So i told him to stop bothering me and he became really rude and said 'well then good luck fixing your computer now'. Then he hung up. I'm shocked, angry, surprised at how big a scam these people are and using Microsoft's name and Microsoft is doing nothing to stop them. Please stay safe people and do not call this company. They lie and scare you that your computer is hacked and then they hack your computer and infect it and ask for money to fix it.
