Craigslist Scam - Google Wallet Scam
Consumer Report

I saw a 2002 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab SR5 TRD listed on Craigslist for $2600. Too good to be true. I sent an email to get and got a response from a person claiming to be LT. Amy Herman stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska. She said she got promoted and she would be in Alaska for 3 years. The vehicle is supposed to be at Hill AFB Utah. She would have the Tacoma shipped to me via the military from Utah and she uses Google Wallet to conduct the transaction. She said all she wanted was $2600 because she did not want the truck getting ruined just sitting for 3 years. When I sent her an email back saying that I wanted to purchase the vehicle she had me send her my shipping info (thank God I didn't send her my home address) and she would send it onto Google Wallet. I got an email with Google Wallet's logo and all of the instructions saying that I was to send the money via MoneyGram. Believe it or not, the request to send the $2600 via MoneyGram is what got me to start looking at this as a scam. While looking for something to say that Google Wallet does use MoneyGram, I found just the opposite. Google Wallet does not use Western Union/MoneyGram and it does not hold money in any escrow account. According to the information that I got from the fake Google Wallet instructions, it said that I would have 7 days to inspect the vehicle and if I decided to not get the vehicle then my money would be refunded via MoneyGram. If I accepted the vehicle then the money would be sent to the seller, Amy Herman. Although I had no contact with Phillip Ferguson, he was listed as the Google Financial Agent which I'm sure he and Amy Herman would split the money. Since I found this out ahead of time, I did not send any money. I did however, send a reply back to Amy Herman letting her know that I did get the email from "Google Wallet" but I also found out that they do not use MoneyGram. I then signed it, You Almost Got Me!
