Consumer Report

ON Tuesday 7-9-13 I googled the phrase "USPS change of address" I incorrectly assumed I was clicking on a link to the Post office website to change my son's mailing address. Without knowing I was actually at a company's website called change-my-address.com. No where on their website does it mention that they are charging you $19.95 to do what you can do for free at the Post Office on on the USPS website for a $1 debit or credit fee to confirm you are who you say you are.
When you call they immediately offer you a $10 refund. I was not satisfied with this and request to speak to a supervisor. I was on the phone 5 times over the course of 1.5 hrs. Each time it took longer and longer to contact an agent. On the 4th phone call I was on hold for more than 30 minutes and each time it gave me a longer and longer hold time until it was finally my turn and then an agent did not come on the line. It ask for the 1st three letters of my last name. Obviously R O B are quite common components of many many different last names. The automated system said "I'm sorry we do not recognize that name in our data base." Really, not a single person in your data base with a last name beginning with R O B? I called using a different phone, and was told "Karen" whom I had just spoken to 30 minutes prior and was told that she is the "evening supervisor" I was told she was not there. I called the final time because in phone call #3 I was told I would receive a confirmation email showing my credit of $10. I ask the agent to stay on the line with me while I waited to confirm the email had arrived. It never arrived, has not ever arrived even 2 hrs later, and I was disconnected while waiting for the email to arrive. When I called the 4th time, I was told I would not receive the email for 24 hrs. I ask why the other CSR had told me I would be receiving it any minute and I was told, "she must have been new, we have many new employees". I ask about that since I was told earlier during one of my 4 phone calls that there were only two attendants on duty. If there were honestly only 2 attendants on duty then how could their be "many new employees"?
Their website looks almost identical to the USPS change of address website. This is nothing but a $19.95 scam. I only knew that I was charged $19.95 by checking my bank account to see if the debit had gone through my account only to find out that I had been charged $19.95 not the $1 that the USPS charges on their website for address changes.
I immediately contacted my bank and was told because the charge is still "pending" that I cannot dispute the charge. Crazy, you would think that would be the perfect time to dispute the charge before it ever "hard Posts" to your account. I will be filing a dispute with my bank, but that could take as much as 60 days to be resolved! And I don't know for certain that it will be found in my favor.
