Received a check for $3990 in the mail from Safeway for winning a lottery. Contacted the local Safeway who referred us to the corporate office. Called them and they have no record of this check. Said there is a scam going around involving UK, Canada, the Safeway Corporate office in Pleasanton California, and the Bank of New York Meliton. We were advised to take the check to our bank and the bank will do what they need to do to process it as fraud. Looked on the Internet and apparently there is some concern brewing from consumers because this company has addresses and once the consumer calls the number contained in the letter, they will also have your phone number. Will be calling the California office when they open on Friday.
