Thred Up
Consumer Report

The company THREDUP is an online resale shop. They send people bags by mail. The person fills the bag with high quality clothes and sends it back to THREDUP. THREDUP then pays the person for the clothing and resells the clothing in their website. I investigated the website before I sent anything to them. It showed THREDUP was paying $4-$10 for used clothing so I sent them 3 large bags. Two of the bags were filled with brand new Gymboree and GAP clothing (both companies sell high end children's clothing) that was brand new with the tags still attached. THREDUP sent me emails that they received the bags and several emails saying due to high volume, there would be a delay in processing my bags. I finally received emails showing what I was paid for the clothing. I was shocked and outraged as they paid me less than $1 for almost all the pieces I sent to them. They didn't pay me for all the clothes though and supposedly, the company donates the unpaid for clothing. I suspect that is not the case. They are not going to donate brand new clothing with tags attached. I believe employees of THREDUP take the clothes for their own use or to resell themselves. For example: a Gymboree top I sent in brand new with price tag showing $19.99 was resold on their website for $10.99 but I was only paid 59 cents for it. THREDUP used their website promoting high payouts for quality clothing then paid almost nothing once the clothing was received. I emailed THREDUP repeatedly with my complaints of low pay for the clothes I sent to them as well as requesting all my clothing to be sent back to me, and they did not address the issue. They stated they couldn't send my clothing back. Of course not—they had already sold several of my items on their website already! They did not offer to pay me a reasonable payout either. I lost over $800 by sending them my clothing. Since THREDUP showed no interest in addressing my complaints, I suspect they will continue to scam people and pay them near nothing for clothing sent to them. I want them stopped before more people are scammed. I also demand a reasonable payout of at least an additional $400 for the clothing they took from me.
