Mills Body Shop and Towing
Consumer Report

Tow charge was suppose to be $350. When I went to pay Dan Mills, the owner, 8 hours after the tow, on the same day, he refused a personal check and also said the towing was now $550 and the tow and recovery was only a 9 mile distance. I thought the $350 was high even though he had to have another tow company assist. Even the State Police thought it was too high and called Mills about it. The State Police took Mills off their list of tow companies to call, by the way.

The second company charged Mills $200 but Mills said it was $250. The second company wanted me to pay them first? Because Mills lied and told him I gave Mills a bad check that bounced when I hadn't even paid Mills yet and he would not take a check. But the State Police asked Mills if he was going to pay the second company after I paid the $550 and he said yes and therefore I had proof of this with the State Police Sargeant.

All my son's belongings, such as clothes, electronics, his personal papers, etc. Were in the car because he was in the process of moving to my house, and, most got wrecked and were wet, as the car ended upside down in a 30-foot deep culvert drain. Mills refused to let me get one pair of son's dress pants out of car so my son could go to a court hearing that day, so we had to get help from a charity to get a pair of pants. He could not go in front of the judge in muddy, holey, torn up jeans.

I had to drive a roundtrip total of 75 miles to get the cash for Mills. The next morning I went to pay as he was closed by the time I got him the cash from all the driving around. Mills STILL refused to release any of the belongings in the car. I had a salvage yard pick up the car and the salvage yard, Riverview Salvage in Caro said I could get the belongings out BEFORE it was weighed on the scales.

Mills also called the salvage yard and told them some lie because by the time they were suppose to pay me for the car, the yard said I would get only $200 instead of the $350 they said I would most likely get after weighing! They said because my son took things out of the car and it now weighed less, but they never even weighed the car. The scales are inside the gates and their truck never took the car inside the gates? (The only items removed were his belongings they said we could remove and the car battery!) Salvage yard also told another worker that Mills said he would have problems with me...

I refused the $200 and was ready to call another salvage yard when they offered me $300. We could not find the title of the car in the car belongings so I had to go to the Secretary of State to get another called and "Instant Title." I believe the title was stolen out of son's box of papers. The two companies actually scammed me together. Besides raising the price on the tow charge and having the salvage yard offer me less for the car, both companies were totally unprofessional, very rude to me, and very unhelpful.

P.S. Right when the salvage yard picked up the car from Mills yard, Mills told my adult son, "You must have been really whacked outlast night, huh?" Verrry unprofessional. My son has mental conditions and his paperwork on his disability were gone through in his file in the car, the same plastic file box that had the title in it which was missing. Mills did go through the contents in the car because he had one box of electronics in his body shop at the tow yard.
