In the spring of 2012 I noticed an ad on WagJag for garage door repair by Central Garage Doors. I checked out their website http://www.centraldoors.com/
I had spent the last year or so trying to find a company that would supply me with a custom sized garage door – I was running out of options. So I gave them a call (both a local and a 1888 number are provided on the website) and Robert came out to my home to give me a quote within a couple days. The following week my furnace broke down and I redirected the garage door money to replacing the furnace.
Fast forward to April – I am now ready to replace the garage door. I called Robert on his cell phone (647 854 1963) and on April 10/13 Robert and Craig Leblanc come to my home, confirmed measurements from the previous visit and provided me with a quote for $2,457.95 (this included HST but no HST # was on the order form?). They returned on April 13/13 to pick up my deposit of $1,200.00 which they requested because the door was a custom size and said they would be installing within the next month and would call to schedule. The check was cashed April 15/13
During the next month I made several phone calls and send several emails inquiring as to when I should expect the installation. I received no communication at all from Robert or Craig until I received an email on May 15/13

Hi Denise,
Sorry I haven't returned your phone call, it’s been really busy the last week. I called the supplier and the door should be in next week so I have you
scheduled for next Wednesday morning at 10:00am. If anything changes I will surely give you a call.

Which was followed by this email received May 28/13….

Hi Denise,
The supplier just called me and informed me that the truck has been delayed due to the storms in the US. I should know more later today or tomorrow when it should arrive. I just wanted to give you a heads up because I know you said that you were booking time off.

I followed up this email by phoning or emailing a couple times a week and received no response at all. I finally sent the following email on June 10/13.

Craig / Robert,
I confirmed my garage door order and provided a 50% deposit on April 13/13. You advised at that time that it would be approx. 1 month to install and that you would contact me to advise of an installation date.
Since then I have attempted to contact someone from your company - using the phone #, the email address provided on your quote/contract as well as Craig’s personal email address - several times a week.
I received 1 returned email on May 15th confirming installation on May 22nd and another email on May 21st advising the installation would be delayed. I have since sent numerous emails and numerous telephone messages and have received no response.
I am sending this last email asking for a response within 24 hours. If no response is received I will be submitting a formal complaint through the Better Business Bureau and proceeding legally based on their recommendation.

I followed up with the BBB and they said they couldn’t help unless I had an address. I didn’t. Just a website and a bunch of phone numbers that no one answered or replied to anymore.

I contacted WagJag to see if they had any contact information they could share. They responded the next day letting me know they did not have an address for this company, just the email address and phone #s provided on the website. I found this difficult to believe. Central Garage Doors sold 238 vouchers for garage door repair through WagJag this spring. How could WagJag not have the billing address or a name of an owner?

I discovered a review on the Homestars webpage giving high praise to Robert and Craig for their great customer service. The site listed Jason Bennet as the owner of Central Garage Doors. I called the contact # for Homestars – no returned call.

I contacted the manufacturer of the products I was ordering (Liftmaster and Doorlink) and they led me to a local wholesaler in Vaughan, Dynamic (866 709 6688). The lady I spoke with was very kind. She confirmed that they were currently supplying Central Garage Doors and she was familiar with the “installers” Craig and Robert. She also confirmed that both the garage door and opener I put the deposit on had never been ordered. She did not have a billing address for them and provided me with a few more phone #’s, a residential address in Brampton and Craig’s last name.

So I spent alot of time on the internet and the phone trying to track down Jason, Robert and Craig. Robert’s cell # is no longer active and Craig does not answer the phone personally or respond to messages.

I even contacted a very nice man named Mark Goodmurphy, the owner of Central Garage Doors in Belleville. He said he was not affiliated with the Brampton company with the same name but had received calls in the past from people looking for them. He was not pleased that they were using his company’s name or that they could potentially tarnish his name and excellent reputation.

June 18/13 my partner met with Sherwin Yen at Dynamic to show her the order and copy of the cashed cheque. She again confirmed that the products had not been ordered and was very upset about the situation. She said Robert and Craig were in weekly to pick up product and always paid cash (therefore no billing address needed). She very kindly provided me with a quote to supply and install the garage I originally ordered at cost. She even went so far as to contact a co-workers husband to install it for me. The customer service she has provided is outstanding but without knowing how to proceed with trying to get my money back I hesitate to invest more money by proceeding with her kind offer.

Do you have any advice regarding how I may be able to get my money back or what my next steps should be.
