I really wish I'd checked scambook before going through that. I think I may have been lucky in this regard, because rather than calling their customer service line and complaining, I just calmly said that I needed to cancel my order. She immediately put one of the $19.95 refunds through, but could only give us $5 back on the other because "it has already been processed" (I got the confirmation from USPS that it had been processed while we were on the phone; fishy, much?).
So all told, I would have lost $39.90, but got some of it back. Much worse than the $2 USPS would have charged me, but at least I know to follow my instincts and go straight to the source.
