Consumer Report

I had worked at the Conoco from 2012 when I left the company for another job. That job resulted in my having to get work's comp for an injury, I called the Conoco to see if I could get a job back there.
They were happy to hire me back. I went back to work there in mid-Nov. And during the next 5 months I had never been written up or counseled or even given a progress report during my probationary period. At the end of January I was told my cashier's til was short $60.00 for the month and the asst. Manager had me sign a little note acknowledging that if this happened again, I would be written up. Everything was fine, I had no other complaints from management, they actually told me I was doing a great job on my side duties. Then on April 1st, they called me up to the office, sat me down and said my til for March was short $80.00 and I also hadn't been doing my jobs cleaning and stocking. I had never been given any indication that anything was wrong with my performance. Not 1 write-up, no sit down counseling with the manager, nothing. From the time I came back to the Conoco until I was fired, 6 other employees had been fired in 5 months. 2 of them were deserving, 1 decided to go ahead and quit, but the other four of us were just let go. The latest one was on June 1st and like myself, they never gave her any warning or write ups and in fact, called her up and told her not to come in, she was fired. The different thing about Conoco's operation of cash registers is that anyone can open your til before you come to work, so once you arrive they tell you, go ahead on register 1, it's already open, which means someone other than you has been on YOUR til but yet, the signed on responsible cashier is the only one liable for the money. I operated a til in March that had been opened since 8 am and I closed it at 2230, not knowing what had transpired on that register the 8 hours before I took it over. Also, during all my shifts in 12 years of working there, ANYONE can operate your til if they are working the same shift as you are. I have talked to other stores and that is absoulutely NOT allowed in any other establishments. The girl that was fired 6/1 and was accused of shortages in two tils, her tils were opened by the asst. Manager. The problem with their accountability is that they don't confront shortages daily like other stores, they look at the month end report, like they did the fired employees and hold us responsible, although during your 20 shifts that month, at least 4-5 other employees had been operating your til. Also, at the end of your shift at 11 pm, you take two bags of the daily tils over to the hotel that owns our store and the clerk puts both bags in a drawer and that's the last you see of them. A few years ago, the tils were coming up short and they found out the nighttime receptionist was taking money out of our bags. The people at the Grantree are great, but it can happen so easy, I always wondered why the money wasn't put in a safe by the courier. During my years of working there, there has never been a training program for newcomers, other than showing them how to operate things. No progress reports, no performance reports and for me and my fellow workers, no write ups. Since November, 8 people have been fired in 7 months. Please look into this and find out why the store is operated this way and how we can be charged with shortages when anyone can open and operate our tils, and why they don't manage people with write ups and counseling and give them a chance to be a good worker instead of just firing them. Thank You
