Grand Valley Hyundai, Grand Junction, Colorado
Consumer Report

I received a phone call from a collection agency out of the blue and they stated they contacted me to collect a debt owed to Grand Valley Hyundai. I told them there must be a mistake because I have made all of my payments. I told them that there was a mistake, not to call me anymore and I would take this up with the dealership. I called the Lender to make sure that they had received all payments and they said they had, and nothing was due until May 1st. I then called Grand Valley Hyundai and left a voice mail with the gentleman who did the financial paperwork with me when I purchased the car in Oct because he did not answer. I called back and asked for the accounting department and got someone who said the I probably owed a down payment and that I had not been taking their phone calls nor accepting their certified mail. I asked her where they had mailed info to because to date I have not received 1 piece of mail from them ever. She said she wasn't handling my case but the lady who was would call me just as soon as she came in to work for the day. It was around 8:30am so I went to work and around 10:30am I called again because neither of my phone calls had been returned. The lady who answered said she was the one I needed to speak to but never identified herself. I explained to her that I received a call from a collection agency for money owed and wanted to know what it was for because I had received a $6000.00 credit for my trade-in vehicle on the day of purchase because that was all I had at the time of purchase. She said that I owed them for taxes that they had to pay because I hadn't paid them. I told her that everything that I was aware of was entered into the loan that day because I wasn't in a financial position to pay anything else out of pocket that day. I told them that they had made a mistake and I wanted them to please fix it and call the collection agency please have this resolved. I was told nothing would be done until I paid this debt. (I went to my phone website and pulled up all phone calls since October and had not received one from Hyundai.) This was the very first time I had heard that there was anything outstanding at all. I was shocked and angered and I told them if they didn't fix their mistake I would be filing a complaint. I asked them where they had mailed the certified mail and was not able to get an answer from them but I think that they may have mailed correspondence to my physical address and I have no mail receptical there, only a po box. Both my sales person and the financial person were given my mailing address on the day of purchase but I think that is where they made this mistake. I asked for the name of this ladies direct supervison and she said that she wasn't available. I asked her to send me a copy of paperwork to prove that I owed taxes and she asked for my email address and told me that she would send it to me. So I hung up and waited for the email which still has not arrived. I called back to ask for the email address of her supervisor and she would not give it to me but said she was going to transfer me to the owner and she put me on hold and then I was connected with another customer who was also on hold waiting for the service department. We both hung up and I called back to ask for the email address and then was told to call the owner at a different phone number and that he would speak with me. I called that number and was told that the owner went to lunch about 7 minutes ago. I called back and told the lady in accounting that the owner had gone to lunch and I would just like his email address to send him a letter and was told that he does not give out his email address so I asked for her supervisors email address and then she put the store manager on the line. He introduced himself as the manager and I asked him if I could have his emial address so that I could copy him in the email I was sending to the financial department about the mistake that they had made. He gave me his email address but told me that he was advised to refer me back to the credit agency. My very first hint that there was even a problem was the phone call from the credit agency and I was made to feel like I was getting the run around without any explanations whatsoever. I feel victimized and humiliated because if I had been notified there was a problem this would never have happened. This morning I called the credit agency and took care of the bill because I am not a person to let things go and did not want my credit damaged. I intend to also file this complaint with the motor investigation board of the consumer protection agency. I believe that they now owe me the amount that I paid to the collection agency. I want to see this complaint on their permanent record.
