MC Sporting Goods
Overcharged, poor treatment and wouldn't reimburse

My husband & I visited MC Sporting Goods on Sunday, 3/24, to look for an elyptical machine and horizontal stationary bike. They had several, we took pictures, were interested, but wanted to look at another local store to compare. We looked at other things, ended up purchasing 14 items - Nike shoes, shirts, shorts, etc., total of $463.64. We had a great young man #34050 wait on us and although a shopper next to me said she had just purchased the same shoes for $40 at TJ Max that I was buying for $99.00, I stayed where I was because I appreciated the efforts of the young man waiting on us.
Immediately when I got home, I took the items purchased from the bag and noticed an item for $54.99 - I knew I didn't select anything for this price. I compard every item purchaed, found one that wasn't accounted for marked $32.97, yet charged $54.99. I immediately callled the store, a girl answered, heard my story, got a manager who I also shared the situation with. I asked if I needed to bring all items back, she said no, just the receipt and the one items and she said she'd make a note of my name.
Instead, I took all of the tags from each of the items purchased, put together with the receipt and wrongly charged itme, but I didn't make it to the store until tonight. The assistant manager said she could give me $5.00 off the $54.99. She said it is common for people to charge price stickers so they can get a different amount. It took me several minutes to catch on to what she was indicating -that I had changed this price. I won't go through everything that she implied - but I own a #1 businessin our county, for 20 years, I told her my time is worth more than the $20 difference and she could keep her $5.00. I told her I believe state law states that if I'm charged more than indicated, the company owes me the amount plus some - she argued. When I asked her to look up what manager was working Sunday when I called and ask them why they told me they would reimburse me and make a note of it. She again argued, saying she was working Sunday.
It is my mistake that I believed the manager I spoke with, vs. Making a note of their name and I should have drove 15 miles back to the store for an immediate refund OR returned the exercise pants.
I told her to look at who she was talking to (a nicely dressed 54 yr old business woman, just getting out of work) and does she really think I would take the time I did to save all of the tags from 14 items even when I was told by a manager to only bring the one item? She kept at it and then finally said she'd give me the difference. I told her I had come Sunday to buy exercise equpment, which I now wouldn't be doing and she could keep the $20 difference.
This is not the way to treat customers - professional customers. And I'm quite sure the law says I am to be charged what is indicated. If it was marked wrong, someone other than I did it - the cost is incidental to me - it is the principle of the situation and the way I was treated. If my employees treated customers this was I would be very embarasssed, sorry and apologetic. Pretty sad situation - as I think of it - she was relatively young and is probably trained this way - rules should adheared to, but also consideration to the situation. If I hadn't taken the tags off from and used the other items - I would have returned all $463.64.
I'll think twice about returning to MC sporting goods. This is one reason, local people go to Ann Arbor to shop vs. Giving business to locals.
