Mrs. Lizzy/Monica Lisa
Consumer Report

I contacted a "woman" about adopting a Yorkshire puppy on Friday, 2/22. She contacted me and said that they were free to a good home. I thought this was a bit too good to be true. She told me she was located about 4 hours away from me and I offered to meet her halfway for the exchange. That's when she proposed to have them shipped to me via your company. During the entirety of our contact, I had asked the women to talk on the phone and she gave me numerous reasons for why she couldn't. I even asked her if she could do a video call with me over the computer, but she said her internet was down, even though she was sending me emails with pictures that she said could not be done using her phone. I asked her to take a picture of the dog right now in real time and send it to me and she informed me that she couldn't do it via phone, but sent me an email. The photo was convincing, but I was still suspicious of her statements. I told her that I could not afford the cost of the shipping for the dogs (at this time I decided to adopt two from her) so she offered that she would pay upfront and that within the next week I could reimburse her. I asked her story for wanting to adopt out her pets and she told me that she recently lost a child and that the dogs brought painful memories. I didn't want to be cruel but questioned her about the story. The timing of the accident that took her daughter's life did not match up with the timing of the date that was in the ad. Also, the reason stated in the ad for her adopting out the puppies did not match her story about losing a child. Later that night, I decided to research her on the internet. I never had her full name, but she introduced herself as Mrs. Lizzy. Her given email address was [email protected]. Using that information, along with her phone number, I found some pretty interesting information. Her phone number and email address were associated with several other ads for puppy adoption and from all over the US. The ad I responded to was for North Carolina, I found one in California, and another in Florida. I also found her phone number attached to an ad for the adoption of some English bulldog puppies. I also found a FaceBook page belonging to a woman named Monica Lisa with a photo of two Siberian Huskies for adoption. Then I came across a search in Google about Yorkshire puppy adoption scams. Anyhow, the next day (today) 2/23, she informed me that she had set up a flight reservation for the puppies to be delivered to my home. I told her that I needed to talk to her over the phone and again she dodged me. She told me that she was at work and that she dropped her cell phone in water and that she was not allowed to use the phones at work for personal calls. All the while, she was texting me. She told me to check my email for the flight and delivery details for the puppies. When I did, I found it in my spam folder. I immediately came back to your website to compare information.in her email, it was full of formatting and grammatical errors (something that I know a business would not present). It also had a wrong telephone number and wrong email address for your company. Still playing along, I asked Mrs. Lizzy what I should do next. She informed me that I needed to go to a Western Union or MoneyGram location and send her the initial payment for having the puppies sent. I strung her along long enough for the "delivery time" to pass. Then I let her know that I was aware of the fact that this was a scam. She had some very ugly things to say to me. I told her shame on her for using the story of losing a child (I had experienced that at one point), and for playing on the emotions of a family consisting of two innocent little children and a soldier that had been to war overseas to fight for her rights to scam people. I ended by telling her that I would be reporting her so that hopefully no one else would fall victim to her fraud.
