I was contacted by collection agency called PushPin Holdings LLC about a $69.19 debt from Newcourt Financial that they bought the debt from, after 13 years! I was never contacted from Newcourt Financial that I owed this debt at any time. I paid them from 1998 which exactly the years I signed my contract with them. They are threatening me and my credit. This is a business that has been closed 6 months ago, after 18 years in business. I have the contract I signed, but do not have the bank statements from that time to prove I paid it, and I also sent their equipment back to them. I have read that there is a statue of limitations on a debt such as this, but I do not know how to apply it. What keeps any financial institution from going back that many years, when they know you cannot prove you do not owe it, from taking advantage of small business owners?
