I Googled an unknown phone number that had called me and found a web site that would look it up and report the caller for 99 cents. Like a fool, I didn't check all the fine print and ordered the lookup. I gave them my credit card number and of course my name, address, and phone number.ino*Intelius.com charged me the 99 cents and then charged another $19.95 for a monthly subscription.
I called Chase Master Card to dispute the charge. They recognized this kind of activity and said I would have to call Ino*Intelius to cancel the subscription before they could help me. I really got hot and bothered about this and the Chase rep said he would call them and got someone on the phone by the name of "Hari" who had a thick Indian accent. Hari said I had agreed to the subscription as a condition of the 99 cent charge. After some angry words on my part, including calling them crooks, he agreed to refund the $19.95.
I hope this helps others who are suckered into buying one thing and getting charged for another thing. I am going to do everything I can to alert every one to this deceptive and unethical business. Chase did a great job and I'm sure helped me get the refund by staying on the line while Hari and I discussed this scam. My advice is to come down hard on these guys and spread the word.
