Worst customer service - return policy

I wanted to return a sweater that I paid $26.79 for. I printed out my order confirmation which showed the price I paid and showed my method of payment and event the last 4 digits of my credit card number.
I attempt to return to item at the store and after 17 minutes, I finally speak to the District Manager who refuses to take the item back because there is no bar code on my receipt. I lost the original receipt that came in the back. Nor was a receipt ever emailed, nor can you reprint it online. However, as I said, the only problem was that there was no barcode on my receipt.

They offered the current selling price which was $7.00 less than what I paid. I then emailed customer service and here are the ridiculous steps they told me to take to get the proper refund:

"Thank you for contacting us at Hollister Co. We are very sorry to hear that our store could not process your return because of the order invoice not being present/not containing a barcode. Order invoices are sent with online orders and should always contain a barcode for the store to scan in the event of a return or exchange. We are very sorry, but we are not able to reprint or reproduce order invoices.

If you'd like to perform your return in-store, you may request a non-receipted return, which will provide you with a merchandise credit for the current value of your item. Do not worry about the amount of your return, though. We can fix that for you. Once you've completed the return, please send us the following information from your return receipt: store number, date of return and transaction number (shown as 'TRANS'). Also, we'll need the account number found on your merchandise credit card. This information will allow us to debit your merchandise credit and then apply the credit, in the correct amount, back onto the payment method from your online order.

If you'd rather not complete the steps listed above, you're more than welcome to return your merchandise to us by mail. Once our Distribution Center has received the merchandise, we'll issue a return credit back onto your original form of payment from your order.

Are they kidding? So, this barcode does not exist anywhere on the face of the earth and they now want to lose a customer (a mother of twin girls no less) over $7.00. I told my girls they are never allowed to shop there again due to this ridiculousness.
