Consumer Report

While I was online, a box popped up asking me to take a survey. It said that I would receive a gift if I completed the survey. After the survey, I was offered one of three gifts for the price of shipping & handling. I chose a watch and paid $7.99. I figured it would be a cheap watch, but maybe I could wear it in the yard or around the house.

Two weeks later on the 21st, I noticed a charge at my bank for $98. I called the company about the charge, first the girl told me that they have a no return policy, but I could email "billing" to see if they would accept my return with my explanation. Then she said I had signed up for a two week trial and since I hadn't called to cancel I was charged the full price of the watch.By the way, this was no $98 watch. If I hadn't called, they would have sent me an item the next month and I would be charged $49 and the same for each month after that.

I told the girl that there was nothing on the survey or the checkout page stating this. She told me that it was right on the page where I paid in large print. When I said "no way" she gave me a website to go to which was supposed to be the checkout page and there it was in big print in a rectangle edged in green swirls. I told her this was not the check out page I saw when I paid for the watch. I am a retired math teacher and I would not miss seeing or reading offer details that were this big. I know the page she took me to was different than the one I saw at checkout. This girl told me that they get very few calls from people complaining because the terms are so clear.in the background I could hear several other phone conversations where the workers were telling customers the same things she was telling me. When I told her that, she somehow muted the background sounds because I could no longer hear the other workers, and she had no comment back to me about it.

When I saw your complaint offer, I called them back to get their location and a girl named Monique answered. She hesitated to tell me Glendale, CA, and when I asked for the street address, she told me that if I was trying to return something without an RMA number that they would not accept it. I said I wasn't doing that and she asked what I wanted the address for. I verified the name of the business with her and then asked her if there was any reason that I could not have the address. She hesitated and then said it very fast. I also asked for the zip and she was very uncomfortable the whole time.

Every thing about these conversations tells me something is not right about this company. I think they substitute a different page when they take you to their website to try to prove the details were right there big as life. I know the page I saw was not the one she showed me.
