Ripoff does not pay it's workers or tell them they are bankrupt/defunct

I signed up with this company in March of this year in response on an online posting they had in which they were recruiting Merchandisers to fold rugs for 1 hour a week in a major department store. I was chosen for this assignment and spoke to my scheduler on 3 occassions to set up my assignment. I visited this department store throughout the month of April and again in May.

I was initially told that I would be getting $25 for an hour. Then when I inquired as to how long it would take me to get the first check, I was told that there was a problem and the payment was reduced to $11.00. At this point, I refused any more assignments and waited to receive my check which did finally arrive, minus the payment for the last 2 assignments. I e-mailed them again in June for the 2 May assignments that had been completed.

My e-mails were not returned by my scheduler and when I tried to call the number, their phone was constantly busy. I finally sent out 'feelers' in mystery shopping online groups and learned that they allegedly went bankrupt and out of business. They never notified me and only after I blasted them on a mystery shopping online 'board', did I finally received this response today from whoever or whatever is left of Best Service Company

" We absolutely had no idea or clue as to what was going to happen just around the corner in March and April. We are now struggling to close our doors and get everyone paid. We're waiting on additional research (from a customer who owes us) and don't know how long it will take exactly, but you will be the first to know when we know. We are still fighting for payments owed in hopes of being able to pay everyone, including you. This is not over by a longshot. Please bear with us and we will not forget you. We appreciate that you need your money as well as deserve it and are doing everything in our power to obtain it in your behalf. As mentioned above, if we win the fight, we will be paying everyone! Good luck, thank you for your additional patience, and we'll be in touch..."

It is interesting to note that they claim they had no idea they were going under in March or April, yet I didn't begin to work for them April and continued through May. I see they were still actively posting openings for Merchandisers on line in the end of June and never bothered to mention that they were a bankrupt/defunct company.

They owe me $22, which isn't a lot, but I can't imagine others who took more assignments and were depending on this as a source of income. I only hope they follow through with their 'promise' to pay because the principal of having someone go out and complete an assignment and not pay them is just plain wrong.
