Do not trust this company, their servers are set up with multiple users on the same server, if a hard drive fails, it will cause many consumers to lose connection. Unlike most Web hosting that use backups or RAID configuration to provide constant and (mostly) uninterrupted service, gameservers.com does not.

We are aware of the issue affecting this server box and are working to have it resolved asap. It is not only affecting your server, but all the other customers who have a subscription from the box your server is running from.

We do not have an ETA on the fix but our admins will be fixing it as soon as possible.

NEXT MESSAGE
From Game Servers:

XXXXXX,
I regret to inform you that your game server in our New Jersey datacenter has had a hardware failure. The harddrive experienced a total failure and was not recoverable. We tried to salvage data from the server but were unsuccessful. We installed a new harddrive in the server and it is currently online. You can now reinstall your server and it
should come back online. We have credited your account for 7 days for this inconvenience.

From Me:

Are you saying there are no backups? We need our ban. Txt file.

We have been running and admining this server since the launch of black ops. We have a 13th ranked gametracker server for a reason.

Please provide the ban. Txt file.

From Game Servers:

The file was lost. There is no way to recover it. To keep backups of all our customers' servers would require over a petabyte of data constantly being updated from datacenters all over the world as thousands of new servers are installed, servers are relocated, and old servers are canceled and closed. The amount of resources and costs involved would increase our operating costs so significantly that we could not offer prices as affordable as they currently are.

We are very sorry for the events that occurred, but there was no way to
predict its occurrence. This is why we xxxxx you a full week free of
charge, because of this incredible inconvenience.

From Me:

A week for a year, I am insulted.

As far as the response, it is sad as well. I would buy it if we were able to get to the servers but it was an agreement made between Treyarch and Game Servers not to allow access to the servers.

So we, the customer are handcuffed by not allowing us access to perform our own backups nor does Game Servers provide a method of downloading or exporting the. Txt file so we can maintain it that way and lastly on a
planned outage for maintenance, Game Servers does not backup their environment?

Sorry but a week is not good enough Beau. I think the $93.00 bill for the next month is more in line.

Lastly, I have ran the re-install as instructed and our server is still not up. It has been over an hour since I re-installed

This really isn't something we can issue a xxxxx of that size for.

I understand the great inconvenience this may have caused, but data backup service is not something we offer at this time. Hardware failures do occur from time to time, but are largely an uncommon occurrence.

The seven days xxxxx you have been given was for the inconvenience of having your server go offline and having to set it up once again. I have applied an additional 7 days for the loss of your data, but that is the absolute limit of what we can offer as we made it clear in the Terms and Conditions that we are not responsible for data loss.

If for whatever reason, I missed something, or if you have any further questions or need anything else, please do not hesitate to let me know.

First we appreciate the extra 7 days of xxxxx although personally I do think it is enough. Game Servers in agreement with Treyarch has restricted the ability for a customer to gain access to BO servers to perform any type of maintenance (including data backup as a ban. Txt file) along with no way to export a log file for banned users. We have
this ability to perform these tasks with every other version (COD4, COD5) which we also have we Game Servers and I do perform this maintenance not expecting Game Servers to handle this function.

With that said, I have read your terms and conditions provided in your web portal and unless I am blinded by legal jumble mumble, I do not see anywhere where it states that Game Servers is not responsible for data loss in regard to a rented game server. If it is there, please provide where I can read this.

Lastly, as an IT expert for over 20 years and as a database administrator as my profession, I truly understand that hardware failures occur and see this sometimes too frequently. I also understand that it is quite costly to perform backups and retain them for all customers and can appreciate putting the responsibility on the customer
for retention of their own data. However, to perform a planned outage on servers that the customer has no way of performing such maintenance nor did Game Servers perform backups is an unacceptable practice and
obviously a direct impact to your customers if a failure occurs as it did in this case.

We as customers are now experiencing an outage with our rented world at war server. It has now been down over a day with ticket XXXXXX. I cannot seem to obtain a status on where our server stands and would hope
that Game Servers would reconsider providing the xxxxx as requested originally.

As it stands, nothing has been done to fix this issue, there are constant issues with all our servers, and service will be cancelled effective today, it is unfortunate that this company will not correct the issues that are occurring, and appear to be unable to rectify them, it is als unfortunate that they are the only company that allow hosting for DEDICATED BLACK OPS SERVERS.
