Beware! I got hit by the Indian payday loan debt scammers yesterday. A guy with a thick Indian accent (said his name was Albert White... Yeah right) called my cell phone AND MY EMPLOYER from "Willie & Wilson Legal Associates" and said I would be arrested on Thursday for not paying back a payday loan (I never had a payday loan EVER).
The only way to avoid "CSI" from coming to my place of employment and arresting me was to pay "A... Lbert" $800 by buying a pre-paid debit card for $800 and giving him the number, or faxing him an authorization to withdraw the $800 from my checking account (he already had my SSN and bank account number!)
Having a smidge of common sense, I told the guy to bite me, went to the bank and opened new accounts, put a fraud alert on my credit, called the police and made a complaint with the FBI. I looked online and these guys are RAMPANT and RELENTLESS scammers who call people's employers, family and friends, tell them the person will be arrested for bank fraud if they don't get the money, etc. Etc.
These guys hit the elderly, people who don't know any better, people who actually get so scared they pay these bottom-feeders. Please alert your parents, grandparents, anyone who could be an easy target.
