QuiBids
A total scam!

I have been searching for a new computer, and came across the Quibids site. I looked at the "auctions" and when I found 2 laptops that were what I needed, I looked more closely at them. Both had so-called "ending" prices - like "recently won for $2.75" and "Just sold for $5.25". So I read thru their description of how it supposedly works and thought "okay, since I'm on social security, I can afford this". Stupid me - I signed on. Purchased "100 bids" for $60. Then I started bidding.

Lo and behold - when I bid, it only went up by ONE CENT per bid. HUH? I had not found any explanation of this. I kept searching for more info - and it was all pretty vague.

So I sent customer service an email - asking "if I don't win the auction, and don't get my bids back (because I lost) then I'm losing money for nothing".

Here's the reply:
When you participate in an auction and do not win, you are given the option to apply the bids used in that item to a Buy It Now price. If you do not choose to use the Buy It Now option for items you participate on, your bids will be considered "Used."
Buy It Now offers you the chance to purchase any product at any time during the auction and for up to 2 hours after the auction ends. Any real bids (aka Bid Pack bids) you place on an auction will be discounted off the Value Price*. Please note: Voucher Bids will not be used to discount the Buy It Now Price.
Below is an example of how your discount for Buy It Now is calculated:
Value Price: $100.00
Discount: Real Bids Placed x Bid Price: 100 x $0.60 = $60.00
Buy It Now Price: $100 - $60 = $40.00 Shipping/Taxes (if applicable)

The "Buy It Now" price is WAY over what you'd pay at, for instance, Amazon. And after your "bids" are applied, then you're paying even more!

These people need to be stopped. I am going to find their corporata HQ and file a complaint with that State's Attorney General's office. I urge EVERYONE who has been burnt by these scam artists to do the same!
