We downloaded the free trial of PeoplePC internet service. I had noticed at the time that if you signed up for a year there was a discounted rate. I sent an email asking if I could switch to the annual rate instead of the monthly. This was the same day that I had downloaded the free trial and I assumed that I would still have my 30 days to decide if I liked the service.
My husband wasn't happy, so we deleated the program and emailed PeoplePC that we were cancelling the trial after less than a week. I was sent an email back saying that I couldn't cancel via email. So I called and cancelled. Over a month later I received an email saying that they were looking into my question.
I sent a reply reminding them that my account was closed. A few days later I got another email saying that they would have an answer for me soon. I got worried about this and called to make sure that they had updated their files to reflect that I didn't have an account.
They informed me that I had an annual membership (when had that happened?) and that it couldn't be refunded! They had charged my credit card without ever sending me so much as a receipt so I hadn't noticed right away. I pointed out that I had called and cancelled and they told me that I hadn't called. We hadn't been using PeoplePC and had never cancelled Earthlink so I felt that they should be able to tell that I hadn't been using their service. They didn't care about that, they just wanted me to go away and stop "lying" to them.
I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, but I haven't heard back from them. I still don't use the PeoplePC and I still don't have my $155.00 back.
