July 21st 2003 I agreed to purchase a computer from Ms. Cornett and provided a check for $3000. I was told that the computer would take approximately "3 maybe 4 weeks to assemble". Today is October 24th (13 weeks and 4 days later) and I still do not have a computer. She claims she is having 'distributor problems'.
When I attempted to call her the first time, her phones were 'temporarily disconnected' according to her in order to shift to a new phone service provider. What I discovered later was that they were disconnected for non-payment.
She did actually tell me my computer system was ready for pickup after 10 weeks and when I went to pick it up I discovered that it was lacking a $130 Sound Card, a $100 speaker system, a $610 Monitor, $395 in software, an $80 Surge Suppressor and had the wrong video card installed. The video card installed was 3 year old technology and one-half the capability of what I ordered. I refused to accept the computer.
Two weeks later she has a 'fire sale' at her business and is handing everything out the door on a 'cash only' basis with no receipts. I ask about my computer system and she informs me that she 'can't find it right now' and will call me later when she does.
I filed a police report for Grand Theft / Fraud. The police contacted her and she has arranged a meeting between me, the police and her attorney in 'a couple of weeks.'
She has made the statement to me that she will be opening a store in another location in Gainesville, on the east side of town on an avenue called "University Avenue" near what is called the 'Dumas Building'.
This woman has more excuses for NON-delivery of a system than I thought was possible. I have looked at filing against her in small claims court. That will cost me $186 and all I will get is a 'judgement' that will be filed in the court records. I will need to retain counsel in order to get any money back. I have filed with the Better Business Bureau as well.
Stay away from Ms. Cornett unless you see what you are buying before you pay for it and make sure you thoroughly check your system before you give her the money for it.
