Broke my computer and blamed it on me

On 7/16/09 I bought a Macbook Pro from Best Buy. This was going to be my new computer to replace the desktop I am using now. I was warned that I should not leave it plugged in all the time when i bought it but I did anyway and I guess a power surge killed it.
So on 12/19/09 I took the computer to Best Buy and since it was still under warranty they were going to fix it for free. The guy working there was very nice and checked the computer out and this is what he put on the report after checking it out. Condition: (Unit has few dings and scratches. Some dirt. CM) Symptoms: (Unit does not start up at all. Please diagnose and repair. No backup. CM)

About a week later i get a phone call from the repair center telling me that my repairs are going to cost about $1300, more than the computer was worth to begin with. I tell them that there must have been a mistake because my computer was still under warranty. Then they told "Unit has liquid damage to top case (space bar and several keys are sticky), logic board, and top most stick of ram." So I told them that there is no way my computer has liquid damage and this must have happened after i gave the computer to best buy. Then the person i was talking to told me that alot of the computers they get shipped to them are damaged in the shipping and if that is the case then they would get UPS to pay for it.

A few days later i get a call from best buy telling me that my computer is back at the store and ready to be picked up. I go down there and tell them the whole story and they brought my computer out. There were scratches all over the outside of the case, the screen was covered in some kind of sticky liquid and almost all the keys were so sticky that they would stay down when you pushed them in. To me it seemed pretty obvious that this was not the condition the computer was in when i brought it to them, and i know the guy that checked my computer out to begin with would have mentioned the sticky liquid all over the computer and the keys not working.

So we get the manager over and she just refuses to believe my story. I tell her that she might be able to talk to the guy that first checked my computer out and he could tell her that it didnt have this stuff all over it. She goes to the back and i dont know if she called him but she came back out and said that he didnt even open or look at the computer, even though it says in his report that he could not get it to turn on and i watched him play around with it for a few seconds before he boxed it up. I could not even reason with this lady. She tried to tell me that it couldnt have happened while they had it because the level of corrosion inside the computer was too great to have happened in such a short time, so i asked her when she opened up the computer and looked at it and if she didnt where does it say this on the work reports. I guess i caught her in a lie because she stopped talking to me after that and told me i could take the computer or leave it but they werent going to do anything about it. I figured any one with a brain could see that something was wrong. She was so rude and hateful that I even have a nickname for her, The Short Fat Ugly Blonde Bitch.

In the end they wanted to charge me $34.95 to even let me have the computer back and refused to do anything about the whole problem. Makes me wonder how Best Buy is still around if they are going to lie to their customers and tell them what they did and did not see.
