Today I noticed a new charge on my office phone line, from a company called PaymentOne.com, who was acting on behalf of SGI Webhosting, for a monthly fee, which I nor anyone in my company had authorized.
I contacted PaymentOne.com, who told me that SGI sells internet services, web hosting, and web design services via telemarketing. I indicated that the charge was unauthorized. To PaymentOne's credit, they immediately blocked SGI from assigning charges to my phone line.
I then called Qwest, my local phone company, advised them of the situation, and they credited my phone bill by the charged amount, $34.95.
On further research, it turns out that SGI, which lists its web site as www.SGINETWORKS.com, is somehow affiliated with www.ServiceGroupUSA.com. I don't know if there's a connection, but my web site hosting service registered their domain name, www.ServiceGroupUSA.com.
I'm going to keep a very close eye on this situation. I can take the high road and say that it must have been a simple type-o, a set of transposed numbers that caused my phone account to get nailed with this charge, but I'll be watching, you can bet on that!
