Do not pay money to prospective employers for training materials. It shouldn't cost money to find work

I answered an ad on Craigs List for "Computer Assistant." I emailed my resume and let them know I was interested. This looked legitimate, however, after I received a reply to the original inquiry from "Vicki" I realized that it was not, because she asked me for $10.00 for a processing fee to have "training materials" emailed to me to begin my job.

This is what she sent:

Thank you for your interest in the E-Responders position. We do still have a few positions avail able. Here's a brief overview:

This is all explained in the training materials, which will be sent to you via your email account if you are still interested. There is no contract to sign and no minimum requirement; the amount you20choose to proc ess is entirely up to you.

Please respond promptly as we only have a few more positions available. Thank you again for your interest.

I replied back:
Dear Vicki,

After reading through the typos in your email and going to consumer complaints to see if you have any issues with truthfulness, I don't think I will pay YOU $10.00 to get hired. Training materials and other required tools to process responses should be out of YOUR pocket, not MINE.

You are taking advantage of people in need of work. All you want to do is pocket $10.00 from vulnerable job seekers. Say I was to give you my last $10.00 (which is true!) to receive your email filled with "training materials" to make you money; I know I would never hear from you again.

Shame on you! This is a recession. I am in dire need of legitimate work. This is not a job that is legitimate. I will be posting to craigslist.com that this is a SCAM.

Vicki sent me her reply:
Thank you for your interest. Sorry you have chose not to take advantage of this opportunity.By the tone of your email, it is not a suprise that you are pennyless and unemployed. Good luck in your Job search. You will need it. Vickie

Please do not give any prospective employer money to get a job. Applying for work and gaining employment should be lucrative to the job seeker and a bonus by the employer for having a great employee. If I had sent $10.00 to Vicki, I most likely would have never heard from her again, or if I had done work for this company, it most likely would have gone unpaid. Beware!
