On 5/15/09 my bank suspecting my credit card was stolen declined my monthly charge for a Enterprise Server I had been renting from 1and1 for 14 months. On 7/8/09 without attempting to re-charge the card and having sent 2 email letters (1 on 5/15 and another on 5/29) but no phone calls or physical letters (the emails were sent but not received) they canceled my server and deleted my code and backups.
I called the billing department within a couple hours to find out why the server was deleted, they stated for non-payment. However in the 52 days following that date they charged my card 6 separate times for other invoices but no attempt for the server. I asked if there was anything that could be done to recover my data and was told no. I asked to talk to a supervisor who also said no. Despite it only being a couple hours after their "termination" of my account, they were not even willing to call down to the server room and ask a tech if my data had actually been cleared or deleted. I asked several times explaining that our backup was bad and they had the only good copy of this 18 mo and $35,000 website project that was 99.5% complete. Again, they the supervisor was unwilling to even take a single step toward helping.
