I am writing regarding a matter of concern to all parents with children and Internet access. While visiting a chat room my ten-year-old daughter and her friend were sent a pop-up that invited them to check out my web site. They clicked on the pop-up and were thrown into the world of on-line pornography. They had become the latest victims of Alyon Technologies.
My understanding of the technology is slight, but I believe they install some kind of a dialer, which connects the user to a porn site for the fee of $4.99 a minuet. The company makes no serious attempt to keep minors out, and I believe an investigation of their practices would reveal that they target minors and derive a significant portion of their revenue form traps such as the one that my daughter and her friend fell into.
I complained to their Customer Service Unit and was told that it was my fault because I did not have proper parental control on my computer. If I do not pay the bill they claim they will take legal action, ruin my credit etc. This is extortion, (censored) of minors, and who knows what other kind of crime.
I have contacted the California State Attorney Generals Office and have sent a letter to my Congresswoman requesting her to refer the matter to the FBI. This is the best way to bet the FBI involved.
