I almost fell victim to the Digis trap but thanks to this complaint I was able to cancel my service order before giving them any of my money.
Apparently Digis doesn't quite know what the term unlimited means. They promise Comcast / Quest like speed and bandwidth but they do not deliver it. Digis is very very restrictive on how you can use your internet connection. Just imaging signing up for satellite or cable TV and then being told you can only watch 2 hours per day.
If your family watches more than that you will start loosing channels. This is basically what Digis is doing. What good is a 7 meg connection if you can't use it? Digis puts a 1 gb daily limit on your internet usage. If you exceed that 1 gb limit you get throttled down to modem like speed. Welcome back to the 1990s! That is absolutely ridiculous in this day and age.
These days people use the internet for so much more than just email and occasional web surfing. Before signing up with Digis, consider some of the common internet activities your computer may do on a daily basis. Don't forget some of the hidden things such and Windows security updates and anti-virus and anti-malware updates. On some days these activities could chew up 10% to 20% of your allotted 1gb and you don't even realize it is happening.
My wife loves to do digital scrapbooking. She transfers a lot of digital images which could easily chew up another couple hundred meg in a short amount of time. And don't forget your phone calls. Yep, they use up a bunch of your allotted 1gb too. Now, maybe you have some young kids who like to stream cartoons from the internet. My three young kids can easily spend an hour per day watching Ben 10 or some other silly show streamed from the web.
And then there is me who like to watch some of my favorite TV shows online when it is convienient for me. Do you have teenagers who like to download music from iTunes or watch videos on youtube? They will constantly be crippling your connection by exceeding the 1 gb limit. I frequently work from home and must have a fast and reliable connection to my company's network. I can tell you that my family consumes well over 1gb on a regular basis and I cringe at the thought of being throttled or punished for using bandwidth that I am paying for. What a horrible service.
For any of you considering signing with Digis, make sure you read their usage agreement. They pretty much tie your hands from being able to do anything useful with the internet other than what you could easily accomplish with a dial-up connection. So you might as well save a few bucks and go with dial-up, or for fast speed which is much more unlimited choose (competitor's names redacted). As for me, I'm staying with.
