I was contacted by this individual about my stove listed on Craig's List. It seemed very odd from the start. The individual was very pushy and said she didn't live here but would be having her movers come pick it up and she "would advise me to immediately take down the post." I told her I would take it down once payment was received and she was welcome to send funds via moneygram. She said she didn't have any cash (all checks are backed by cash!!!), and would be sending a certified check.
Today I got an email saying that she was sending me a portion of her salary check, and her accountant made a mistake and issued the full amount to me. She told me to take out the money for the stove. Keep $100 for my "running around." Wire the rest to her through moneygram or western union.
At this point I knew for sure something was up. Nobody jumps from a certified check to a salary check. You'd also have to be a pretty high up executive to get an accountant to issue your salary check to another individual. As an accounting major, I know an accountant would never do that especially since money for equipment would come out of another budget and an account separate from payroll. I fully expect this check to be 100% fraudulent.
Additionally the emails are entirely to long and detailed for someone who is buying a stove off of craigslist. People who actually have large incomes don't usually bargain browse, they merely go into the store and pick it up. Plus shipping a stove to Florida is way more expensive than just buying one there. I'm a college student who is from the inner city, this scam artist needs to step their game up! I know better hustlers on the block haha!
I googled her and stumbled upon this website with someone who had a very similar story. Thank you usacomplaints.com! You confirmed something I already knew and now I have proof. I will not be falling victim to this scam.
