Craigslist/Internet Scam-UK person sending fake checks for large amounts-ask that you wire remainder-but you get stuck with the full amount california, virgina and/or UK

A few weeks ago, I posted an ad on craigslist in hopes to sell my baby crib and mattress. I received an email from an Albert Cullen asking me to take down the ad, as he wanted to buy it from me and would immediately send in the money. That's when things got weird. He said he was located in the UK, and that he was going to UPS me a certified bank check and to put it into my account. Once the funds cleared, then he would make arrangements to pick the items up. He even said to give myself an additional $100 for my troubles. Well, immediately I realized it was a scam.

My first inclinging was that the person was located in B.F.E... By the time everything was said and done, he could have purchased brand new items... But yet he wanted my used ones??? Then by him sending me $3620.00 oppose to $225-the actual price I was asking. Recently, there was scams reported on TV about scammers sending "bank certified checks" and the banks really think the checks are valid... They even clear... Then you think all is well and wire the remaining balance. The thing that happens, is eventually the check gets returned to the bank and you get hit with the FULL AMOUNT because you have already wired the balance. THIS IS A NATIONWIDE SCAM!!!

I decided to play the back and forth game for awhile... Only because I was giving Craigslist the information I was getting in hopes to catching these people. I finally got so aggravated with all the emails I was starting to receive from several people trying to help this man get his items and get my information to send the check... So wrote them all an email telling them I knew it was a scam and to stop contacting me. Strangely enough, several of the email address were now invalid and I just received the check today. I am obviously ripping it to shreds, but happy that I now have an address to give to craigslist in hopes they can catch these crooks.

Please do not fall into this scam... Some scammers even send a real check and let it clear... Only to gain your trust to help them again. That is when they send you a large check and it turns out to be fake. Don't let them reel you in.
