Dishonest rip-off procrastination mail fraud said my check was cashed but won't say where

I bought a Cd writer from CenDyne at Officemax in November. This included a $30.00 rebate by mail. I registered the product and rebate through E-mail.

I was told my check would come within 6-8 weeks and would come in form of a postcard. (my first clue) I patiently waited 10 before requesting status through E-mail. Parago handles the rebates, so that is who I contacted.

They told me my check had been sent 2 weeks prior and had cleared their bank. However, on their reply to me I noticed they got the amount of my rebate wrong in their response. (they said I had been sent $99.00)

I wrote them back and corrected them on their error, suggesting that since they made a mistake on the amount, that they please re-check the status. I also requested the name of the financial institution where the check supposedly cleared so I could pursue the matter criminally if theft was the issue.

I have heard nothing and am at a loss. I feel like I have been ripped off and there isn't anything I can do about it. All I can do is write to you and the Better Business Bureau.

I checked the BBB and they do not have a favorable status.

I wish I could prosecute, I would but I just don't know how.

All I wanted was my damn $30.00!!!
