Recently I was laid-off at Walden University without reason. Being in IT staff support, I was a dedicated system administrator that was in great standing with all staff. Until Sylvan bought up Walden University in and the butchering of IT began.in an effort to demonstrate power out of his L.A. Office, the new IT director Charles Blake fired all IT staff by saying: your skill sets were evaluated and don't fit into the new scheme anymore.
By asking what skill sets those were and why we were never notified about this, he said refused answers and had us escort out of the building. After so many years of dedicated work, that is what the Sylvan butcher managers give you! We didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to our friends and co-workers, we were simply pushed out the door.
To everybody who wants to start working at Walden University or Sylvan/Canter: don't do it. All three locations in L.A., Baltimore, and Minneapolis together have a manager-worker ratio of 1:1, which provides vast grounds for political infights and illogical business decisions. Staff morale is at its bottom, and if the economy was any better, their offices would be empty,
What can I do in such a situation? Sylvan has dozens of lawyers that the little man from the street cannot afford. How can I stand up against such injustice? We were never given job evaluations, or were formerly put on probation (what for I can't imagine since we provided excellent service). This was such a setup!
