And Geek Squad Another Corporate Example of Corporate Thievery

I gave my daughter a Gateway Tablet PC for college. She brought it to me booting to a blue screen. I checked all of the hardware (I have over two decades working in IT and built approximately 2500 non-corporate systems and designed about 200 corporate systems) but because of my workload and her time schedule for returning to college, sent her to Best Buy to get it fixed with specific instructions that I repeated when I called them because they were late. They were pretty complicated; "The machine is booting to a blue screen and I need you to fix this if possible, if you can't do this I'll redo the whole thing. My daughter first and I second were told this would not be a problem.

During this time it should be noted that I never received any calls from Best Buy about the computer. They told me that everything was fine with the computer except they didn't fix the boot problem, which is what it was brought in for! By their definition the computer booted fine because the power came on!

This caused an argument because they said it was brought in just for a diagnostic (they charged $70.00) that apparently, by their definitions, did not include returning a working system.

Having booted to a distro on CD and assuring all the hardware was properly working, the only problem the computer had was the boot problem. Now they have my daughters money and I still have the boot problem and what was done for convenience has resulted in zippo and money for them for services not rendered.

The Manager was not to smart and held the line nothing was wrong with the computer and it did boot. According to my definition and the ones I have grown acustom to in my two plus decades of work is that when a computer boots successfully, that means it boots to a loaded operating system.

This type of arrogance is unacceptable and can only be, IMHO, the result of some very poor corporate training.
