Took money for MONTH after we discontinued our service, and sent it to collections when we changed account numbers

We had netzero for a long time, we had been billed without our concern in the past and they promptly rectofied the situation by reversing and or offering free months service.in october we had to move from our house after many years of living there. We cancled netzero right away and got a dsl conection in our new place, not aware of the charges being takin from our account every month for almost a year. One day I lost my debit card and ask the bank to send me a new one. They did and I got a e-mail from netzero saying "we tried to bill you and the account had been cancled, your debt will be sent to collections" etc... I mailed a copy of my eviction notice and my copies of my bank statement they requested, and waited and waited. Finally I sent them an e-mail the other day and warned them I would get my legale team involved because in the 8 months I had overdraft fee's and a mark on my credit report from the debt...

They removed the debt from collection in the email it stated this

"Dear Dana,

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Please be assured that this account has been removed from collections. You do not owe anything for NetZero.

We appreciate your patience and understanding in this regard.

But they still haven't refunded the charges. It has costed me dearly, i went 2 dollors overdraft from one of the charges and it chain reacted to $350.00 worth of overdrafts from my bank. They will refund if Netzero ever owns up to their mistake. I'm afraid the mark is probly still on my record from the collections debt. I will never sign up with them again. I think they do this more then reported or noticed, they never let you disconnect service they ALWAYS OFFER FREE MONTHS! Then when the free months are overwith they begin billing with NO NOTICE! I wish I could sue them but its such a small amount of money and I have no idea what the mark on my credit is worth in a court of law but its not rite.

I'm glad there is a place like ripoff report to warn others of and document this kind of difficulty. It seemed like it was done purposely to me, i dont belive they "didnt hear me" or "forgot I called" they just dont let there members discontinue service easily for the benifit of financial growth and perception to the public of how many members they have on board.
