Sending a collection letter for a cancelled account San Jose, California

I cancelled my Pro Stores account on the telephone 3 Months ago, which was a painful experience as the Pro Stores operator was very unhelpful, but at the end of the conversation I was told the account was cancelled.

Today I receive a collections letter from a collections agency in New York whose phone number goes to an automated system that then says it will put me through to an operator and then either drops the call or says they are closed.

On calling Pro Stores they say they have no record of the account being closed and it was closed for non payment. My reply was that I did cancel it, gave them the date etc of the cancellation phone conversation and why did they not inform me that there was an outstanding balance.

They said that when I signed up I asked for email communication only and they had emailed me that their was an outstanding ballance, which I can guarentee they did not. I cannot understand why they would not send a notice in the mail that their was an outstanding balance, and the first time I hear of the problem is through a debt collection agency.

Pro Stores is not user friendly at all, why would it be? They just want you to spend even more money with their design services. Along with the attitude and skill level of their support staff I just cancelled the account (or so I thought).

How can they not contact a customer that they belive has an open balance and then just send the balance to a collection agency, it is unbelivable. Surley if they were intending to take action they should send notification by mail instead of email... And the outstanding balance, a saggering $29.95.

This company appears to offer bargain services for people that want to sell on the Internet, once subscribed you soon realise the tools that you are given for that price are woefully inadequate and if you want to have a functioning and functional site to sell through you have to spend a lot more money with them.

My opinion a company that is a rip off!!! They are not interested in technical or customer problems, have no path to supervisors on the phone, do not post a physical address on their web site and all emails are ignored. And my experience above goes to prove it, I was basically told to "go away" on my call to them today!
