Siding With Seller on Return Shipping for a Wrong Item

A Hong Kong seller sent me the wrong item, not new, after I paid via PayPal in good faith for something listed as "brand new" on eBay, shipping included. His reaction to my notification of the error was to demand that I cover postage back to Hong Kong prior to refunding me. The mistake was his, so I would not pay to return a product I never ordered. Why must I bear the cost and punishment for his blunder? Furthermore, with return postage paid, I would end up losing money on this failed transaction, refund included. That is why I escalated to PayPal's Resolution Center.

To me, I was the wronged party: full price paid, nothing received, and now repacking, time off work for a trip to the Post Office, and the expense of mailing it across the globe. Absurd. As an alternative I suggested that UPS, FedEx or DHL pick it up from me.

Still, PayPal made a fast decision, siding with the dishonest seller and ordering me to pay the return postage.

Apparently PayPal is biased toward vendors and sellers. Lesson: buy on eBay, receive the wrong or misrepresented product, demand a refund, and YOU WILL LOSE MONEY. For innocent buyers acting in good faith, such e-commerce treatment is hostile and adversarial, and the policy of PayPal's Resolution Center BACKS IT.
