Just to follow up on an earlier report, I needed an economical office system and thought I would dowload Sun Microsystem's OpenOffice.
As I was in a hurry I assumed the offer of 24/7 service and support for US49.99 was going to Sun (and it's not that expensive when you compare it to an MS package) so I went ahead and paid via PayPal.
Later when the dust had settled and I was installing OpenOffice, it asked me to consider making a donation Doh!
I then checked back to see what IO had done and there on the PayPal payment details was the name Advance Telecom Inc... What a great way to make money!
I assume the Internet page must have changed but it must have been very subtle. And I didn't notice it!
Getting Pay Pal to do anything is virtually impossible - I have previously attempted to get a refund for faulty goods but they refused to do anything - and make me question their own operating ethics.
Anyway the great lesson is not to use PayPal for such purchases... I have had a few other problems but only when paying with a Barclays Visa card - and they are brilliant about refunds - absolutely no wriggling and most fair and efficient - in fact a great ad. For Barclays!
