Since November of I have been getting charges on my AT&T phone bill from a company Main Street Telephone Company. The charges range from $16.00-$17.00 each month. They are listed under "USBI" on the phone bill. I believed these charges were associated with my phone bill until I spoke with an AT&T operator and she told me they were a 3rd-party company. I called the toll free number next to the charges a few weeks ago and asked them to cancel my account. I asked them what authorization they had to charge my account. They told me that I signed up for it online. I told them I never signed up for this service and I had never used-didn't even know what services they provided. The operator, "john", told me that they would refund two months. I told him I expected all of the charges to be revoked. John said he couldn't do that. He told me to email or mail the company. I emailed the Main Street Telephone Company and received this response.
"Our records indicate that your name and email address registered for our service. Following this registration, we sent two additional emails to the registrant, which confirmed the data submitted the toll free number and the pin number needed to use the service; it also provided the customer service number and cancellation procedures.
Our cancellation / refund policy listed in the terms & conditions of the offer specify that the customer "must cancel within 10 days of the end of the month to avoid the following month's charges." In some extenuating circumstances, we do refund up to two months of billing. Today we have issued an additional month of credit.
As a goodwill gesture only, we have issued an additional two months of billing for a total of four months credits to your account. Please be advised it may take up to two additional billing cycles for the credit to appear on your account.
We are in receipt of your Consumer request and provide this report in an effort to advise you of the status concerning the same.
Our records indicate that the billing telephone number was enrolled in MainStreet Telephone Company's Save4Less Platinum Plan. The order was placed from IP
address by selecting the "Sign Me Up!" button on the order page. The on-line information submitted to Save4Less to create this account appears hereto.
MainStreet sends a confirming email and fulfillment email notifying customer of the order submitted. All account information is listed within the email as well as the plan fee to be charged to the phone number listed. This account was cancelled on 09/19 and issued a credit.

I have tried to talk with AT&T because the charges are over $150.00 for the last 11 months. They said that they could do nothing. However I can not contact Main
Telephone Company on the phone either. I cannot send certified mail because it is a PO Box. I did find this address on the internet, but do not have any confirmation that this man is still president.

I have just filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office detailing my experience. I would suggest all who have this problem to start there.
I will update this when I hear a response from the Attorney General.
