I had a dormant account with 1and1. I had a website there.
It was part of a free package, started when they
first launched. So, lately, finally, I decided to add some useful stuff to it. I found out I couldnt access it.
So, I called, and they said "we need to get money
from the collection agency". I couldnt quite figure
out what the deal was, except that I had to pay
to get access. Fine. I wanted to get online asap.
So, I paid $18.75/- (for collection agency) "$5" (for processing fee)" I managed to get ftp access after 3-4 days of emails with their biling dept.
Then after 2 weeks or so, I try to logon and it tells
me the "status" is "deleted". I called - and they said the $18.75 is for "legal rights"
to then domain. And I still have the domain.
If I type the domain name in my browser, it goes to
some microsoft site, asking me: am I looking for someother site. Basically, I am not online. I am not hosted. I dont have a website domain.
I was given no email telling me they are going to delete the website. I wasnt told that after charging my card for $18.75 $5 that in a few days, they would delete all my directories and that if I typed my domain name, it would go ""search. Live.com", instead of showing it as "www.mydomainname.com", at the top.
I think these people are theives.
Be very careful and go to reliable, trustworthy companies
like yahoo, instead of these crooks.
