While attempting to gain access to a "free" preview of a porn site, I was directed to the ChargeMeLater site. After filling in the requested fields (still assuming that this was a Free preview) it informed me that I would be billed for about US $30.
I immediately closed that window and went back to checking my email where I now found a letter from chargemelater confirming my purchase. I responded to this email telling them they had made a huge mistake, that I did not want their service and had not visited any of their sites. (I still keep a copy of this email, which was sent within minutes of closing the window that informed me I would be billed.)
About two months later I received another email from chargemelater saying that my account was overdue. I responded to this email telling them that I had not used their service and I referenced my previous email to them telling them that I did not want their service. (I still keep a hard copy of this email also.)
I have since been harassed daily with phone calls from either chargemelater or their collection company First Credit of America or both. The last time I talked with chargemelater I told them "Let's go to court and let a judge decide if I owe you."
The last time I talked with First Credit of America I confirmed that they were recording the call, then invoked my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act of Colorado (where I live) and requested they not call me anymore.
I am now preparing Cease & Desist letters to both companies.
