I have had a PayPal account from the beginning. Two months ago, I sold my laptop computer to someone in the Philippines, and they sent my money through PayPal. Before transferring the money to my bank account, I called to ask if I could take this money, and they said yes. I got an email from PayPal thanking me for doing business with them.
I shipped my laptop out. After 5 days, when the buyer got the computer, PayPal sent me an email telling me that the money I got was stolen.
I have to return the money. I provided all my emails and all my information to help investigate this issue, but after a couple of weeks they still tell me I have to return the money. So I am losing my laptop, $1600.00, plus shipping and handling. I did not know this money was stolen. That is how the PayPal security system works: they have to check the senders and receivers. PayPal should send an email to the buyer and seller right away, not after 5 days. They froze my account with $1600.00.
Now my case is with collection agencies, and I am looking for an attorney to see if one can help me. I have read PayPal horror stories, and they will go down. I called for an address to file a small claim, and they do not give any address, only a PO Box.
This is to tell everybody: when buying and selling across borders, they come to close one and catch you at home; it is easy for them, and they do not go after the scams in other countries.
Stay away from PayPal. It looks like a black hole; you can never resolve your problem like you can with other credit card companies. They only know their own rights.
